From Jan.15th to the 18th, 40 qualified eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series competitors entered 2024 Free Agency.
Each of the 20 official teams entered this year were tasked with signing two drivers to represent them over the 18 race schedule, competing for not only the individual driver’s championship, but also the team championship at season’s end. By the end of the day on Thursday, the roster was completed.
CONTINUED RELATIONSHIPS
Of the 40 drivers, just 12 stayed with their teams from the 2023 season. Only two teams’ lineups stayed exactly the same.
23XI Racing re-signed the 2021 series champion Keegan Leahy — the team’s real-world Performance Consultant — as well as its 2023 playoff driver in Michael Guest. Joe Gibbs Racing returns with sophomore Daniel Faulkingham and its perennial playoff favorite, Bobby Zalenski.
Other signings included 2020 series champion Nick Ottinger returning to William Byron eSports for a fifth-straight season, while Williams Esports brought back Donovan Strauss and Letarte Esports brought back Dylan Ault, each for a third straight season.
WHAT’S NEW
With six new teams on the board this year, 11 of the drivers on the roster were already looking for new places to race in 2024. The defending series champion, Steven Wilson, will join the 2017 series champion, Ryan Luza, at the new M80 squad.
Spire Motorsports swiped up the 2022 series champion, Casey Kirwan, to race alongside Malik Ray this season. Another new organization, Oxygen Esports, picked up two displaced drivers as well, in 2019 series champion Zack Novak and 2022 Daytona winner Femi Olatunbosun.
The three other new teams also have stout lineups to take on the upcoming season. Defending Championship 4 competitor Garrett Lowe joins another 2023 winner in Jordy Lopez at the BS+Competition stables. Nitro Circus brings in a former team-championship-winning driver, Dylan Duval, to race with one of the four rookies this year, Matthew Zwack.
On the flip side, Kevin Harvick Inc. decided for experience and added two eNASCAR veterans for its inaugural season, both Matt Bussa and Jimmy Mullis.
BACK FOR MORE
Three drivers returned to the series this season after missing out in 2023. Four-time series champion Ray Alfalla is the only one of whom that will drive for a new group in 2024, this year with eRacr. Both Briar LaPradd and Taylor Hurst will drive for the entries they drove when they were both last in the series in 2022, at JR Motorsports and Team Dillon Esports, respectively.
Team Dillon Esports also has one of the four rookies this year in Jonathon Dulaney taking the reins of the No. 3 this season. Both Lopez and Tucker Minter, who won the team championship together last season, will race for different brands in 2024 as Minter heads to race alongside Ottinger at William Byron eSports.
